The Exact Workout And Fitness Routines Celebrities Swear By
This is how 31 celebrities stay fit and toned.
Yoga and pilates might sound like the only workout options reserved for Hollywood stars, but these days, celebrities are training more and more like professional athletes. Here, 31 celebrities dish on how they lift, climb, box, and dance their way to toned and fit bodies.
Gigi Hadid
"I grew up as a horseback rider and a volleyball player so honestly when I got a gym membership in New York, I thought I was going to die. Going and running, just to run on the treadmill, wasn't my thing. I have so much respect for people that can do it, I wish I could because it looks really cool and really fun. There's always stories about cute girls in the gym, I'm just not one of those people. But I had to start boxing because I missed working on something and learning and I guess there's a little more aggression in boxing. I couldn't really get that side of me out, but I used to be able to by hitting a volleyball. That's why I started boxing," Hadid told ELLE.
Bella Hadid
The youngest Hadid sister also prefers boxing to yoga. "When I work out I love to work out. I train and I work out hard for two hours," Hadid told E Online. "I don't like to do the whole yoga thing. I think yoga is calming and it's amazing, but if I am going to go for it I am going to go hard."
Miranda Kerr
The supermodel does pilates and yoga twice a week, plus planks to strengthen her core. “I’ll put on music, and my son will be dancing while I’m doing planks on the floor,” she told BAZAAR. On the road, she practices with Ballet Beautiful DVDs.
Felicity Jones
"I am a bit of a magpie with fitness. I do bits of yoga, pilates, ballet, swimming, and then I like to go running outside rather than go to the gym," she told BAZAAR.com. "I have noticed when I go to the gym I tend to build-up bulk and I don't really want to do that unless I am playing a character like that. It's all about feeling strong but not bulky."
Adriana Lima
"I’ve been switching things up a little bit. I love boxing, but more recently I’ve been doing a lot of circuit training and running. I've found that keeping fit on the road is really challenging," the supermodel told BAZAAR.com. "I always want to try new types of food that may not be all that healthy. The key to balancing this is keeping my body active. If I have a gym at my hotel, I'll wake up and do a quick workout, or I'll run outside as a way to see the place that I’m visiting. Another good trick of mine is packing a jumprope and doing ten minutes in my room first thing in the morning to get my heart rate up."
Jessica Chastain
The actress practices with Bryan Kest Power Yoga online. “I used to work out at his studio in Santa Monica, but now I do it when I’m traveling,” she told BAZAAR. She's also into dancing: “I love the Lindy Hop. It’s such good exercise. You just need to find a guy who’s into it.”
Candice Swanepoel
The Victoria's Secret Angel does regular sessions with Justin Gelband at ModelFit in New York. “I’ve been seeing him forever.” To get zen, she also practices yoga and meditation. “They help me a lot; I keep things simple," she told BAZAAR.
Jennifer Lopez
Lopez is a loyal devotee to trainers Tracy Anderson and David Kirsch. "I am constantly switching things up – I like to do a mix of cardio (running, dancing, Tracy Anderson’s workout) and weight training. It’s important for you to constantly change your workout routine to keep the body guessing," Lopez has said.
Kate Bosworth
"I love to run now, but if I'm going to the gym, I run about two and a half miles. When I first started, I was like, 'This is so hard. I don’t know how I'm ever going to get used to this. It's impossible.' But I also knew when I was done with it, I felt so good," the actress told InStyle. "I was like, 'OK, if I can just keep that in mind, then it'll start feeling good and I’ll just remember what the effect is."
Lady Gaga
“I work out a lot,” Gaga confessed on Good Morning America right around the time of her Super Bowl Halftime performance. “I do the VersaClimber and sing while I do it. [My Super Bowl show] is full-on cardio. It’s cardio while singing."
Mindy Kaling
"If I could do one workout for the rest of my life, it would be a 2 – 3 mile run followed by a Pop Physique class. Running clears my mind and releases anxiety. Pop makes me feel flexible and strong. It is super hard and uses many ballet moves. I always pretend I’m Natalie Portman in Black Swan while doing it," Kaling confessed to The Chalkboard Mag.
Jenna Dewan Tatum
The actress and dancer credits trainer Jennifer Johnson and her JJ Dancer Method for keeping her fit and motivated. “She’s a trainer who is also a dancer and she makes it fun for me,” she told Health. “If it’s not fun, I won’t go. We dance, we do routines for 45 minutes to an hour, whatever time we have. It depends on the week, but if I get one or two workouts in, I’m happy.”
Khloe Kardashian
In a fitness video on her eponymous app, Kardashian confessed her love for the rotating stair climber when at the gym. "The stairs are everything for your lower body, and you’re sweating, it’s a great cardio workout. I like to do the stairs at the gym where the stairs are rotating, not an actual stair master," she says. "The stairs are rotating and if you stop you’re just going to fall off that bad boy. So that one is a beast. That is so good for your butt, thighs, squat, everything.”
Arianna Huffington
"I start my day by drinking hot water with lemon and doing 20 to 30 minutes of breathing meditation. After that I jump on my stationary bike for 30 minutes while I check e-mail on my iPhone. I finish up with 10 minutes of yoga stretches. Three times a week I also have a trainer either in New York or L.A., and we lift weights," she told BAZAAR.
Blake Lively
Lively recently dropped a ton of baby weight with the expert guidance of her trainer Don Saladino, who focuses on weight training and mobility. "Turns out you can’t lose the 61 lbs you gained during pregnancy by just scrolling through [Instagram] and wondering why you don’t look like all the bikini models," Lively captioned a recent gym selfie. "Thanks @donsaladino for kickin my A double S into shape. 10 months to gain, 14 months to lose. Feeling very proud 💪😁💪."
Beyonce
"I can't eat what I want, and I can't not go to the gym," she confessed to Self. The superstar has been spotted doing cardio at Soulcycle, but she's also not afraid of strength training. "I'll put on a song that I really like and do [biceps curls with] five-pound weights [for] the whole song and just try to burn out," she told Self. "The truth is, it's a lot of sacrifice. It's more about your mental strength than physical strength. You have to push yourself. It doesn't matter what trainer you have. And it doesn't matter what program you're on. You have to be healthy and make the right choices."
