Update 5/19/2018: Meghan has officially walked down the aisle and we've finally gotten a look at her makeup look. As we predicted, it's a classic makeup look. She appears to be wearing her signature soft smoky eye, long lashes, bold brows, and pink lips. Her beloved freckles are in view and her complexion looks perfectly dewy—as if she's not wearing any makeup on her skin at all.
It was done by celebrity makeup artist Daniel Martin, who has also worked with Elisabeth Moss, Jessica Alba, and Jessica Biel. Martin is a Dior Brand Ambassador and Honest Beauty Creative Color Consultant. The official press release states he is Markle's "long-time friend."
Martin has done Markle's makeup many times before for red carpets and photo shoots—here is when he did her makeup at the 2014 NBC Upfronts. It's similarly natural-looking as her wedding day look.
Martin recently spoke about his friendship with Markle on ABC News' 20/20. He said the two of them met in New York City at NBC's Upfronts when Suits was introduced in 2011. He was initially reported to be attending only as a guest of Markle's.
"We just totally clicked and got along. So seven years later, we're still great friends," he said in the interview, adding, "I was really flattered to know that I was going to be a guest at the wedding and to be able to share this incredible moment with her."
He also told the story of how he found out Markle was dating Prince Harry. He saw tabloid stories about her amidst her rumored romance with the royal. He texted Meghan with a photo of the paper asking if she was okay. "She texted me back with a winky face emoji. And then I was like, 'Okay, she's good,'" he recalled.
Original post 5/4/2018: As more details emerge about the royal wedding—from the cake flavor to the guest list to the performers—one aspect still entirely unknown? The bride's makeup look. Thankfully, the closer we get to May 19, the more clues come forward. Read on for a few educated guesses on which route the future Duchess will choose for the big day.
She'll go natural and classic.
Lydia Sellers, Markle's makeup artist who worked with her from 2015-2017, said in a recent People interview that she thinks Markle "will go with a classic, timeless look similar to what we have seen her wear lately." She elaborated: "Natural, dewy-looking skin, with her freckles peeking through, a sheer pink lip and a daytime smoky eye with beautiful volume in her lashes."
She'll stick to her old favorites.
Through the years, Markle has gone on record saying she loves a number of cult-favorite beauty products. Her list, according to past press interviews, includes YSL Touche Éclat Concealer, Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick in Very Victoria, NARS Orgasm Blush, Dior Diorshow Iconic Mascara, and M.A.C eyeliner in Teddy. Sellers also noted that Markle is a fan of RMS, an all-organic makeup brand.
"Natural products are staples in my kit because of their simplicity and authenticity — I know Meghan valued those qualities as well," Sellers said.
She'll focus on skin.
In a previous Refinery 29 interview, Sellers revealed that Markle prioritized low-coverage complexion makeup so that her natural freckles would shine through.
"Every time I'd do her makeup, she'd say, 'Can we just make sure my freckles are peeking through? I don't want a ton of foundation,'" she said, "It was more about the amount of product that went on her skin and keeping it really fresh and dewy, rather than caking it on. So I'd use the Armani Luminous Silk Foundation with a Beautyblender because it's really easy to sheer out."
On top of that, Markle is a major skincare buff and has previously professed love for Kate Somerville Quench Hydrating Face Serum, Bioré Daily Deep Pore Cleansing Cloths, and Tatcha Rice Enzyme Powder.
She'll take a cue from Kate Middleton
While we have no way of telling whether or not Markle would opt to do her own makeup as Kate Middleton famously did, she may be using products from the same makeup brand. Middleton and her entire bridal party turned to Bobbi Brown cosmetics.
Meanwhile, in 2016 Markle collaborated on a backseat beauty tutorial with Bobbi Brown herself. While this is hardly a confirmation that she'll be using those exact products for her wedding beauty look, we at least know she has a relationship with the brand and makeup artist.
As with everything else about the Markle's bridal look, makeup details will likely be kept under tight wraps right up until she walks down the aisle. In the meantime, shop her known beauty bag essentials, ahead.
