Who: Chloë Grace Moretz
What: '80s Draping
How: Makeup inspired by the '80s has been trending backstage at runway shows for the last two seasons or so, but that doesn't always translate beautifully IRL. Except if you're Chloë Grace Moretz, who just pulled off the draping look so flawlessly we're already reaching for our blush brush. We love how she paired the blush eye and lip moment with an equally delicious candy-pink glossy lip, but not everyone will want to wear this much color. Instead, tone down the pink along your upper cheekbone for a more wearable look.
Editor's Pick: Tom Ford Cheek Color in Flush, $62, sephora.com.

Who: Kendall Jenner
What: Long Tendril
How: The tendril is back and we love it more than ever. Blame (or thank) the resurgence of '90s trends or Meghan Markle, but we love how a face-framing tendril or two can make any hairstyle feel casual and cool. Take a cue from Kendall Jenner and toss your hair into a haphazard updo. Use a styling iron to smooth and gently curl two face-framing layers away from your face. Making sure the tendril is smooth and shiny (but not perfectly curled with a wand) will make the look more sleek.
Editor's Pick: GHD Platinum Professional Performance Styler, $249, sephora.com.

Who: Zoe Kravitz
What: Under Liner
How: Nobody wears eye makeup quite like Zoe Kravitz. As the face of YSL Beauty, she is never scared to wing out her liner or wear a bold color, and we love her for it. She posted a selfie yesterday showing off a cool take on a cat-eye. Instead of sweeping the liner across your top lashline, do the reverse and create the wing from the bottom lashes. Paired with little other makeup, this simple twist on a flick makes for a major beauty statement.
Editor's Pick: Yves Saint Laurent Dessin Du Regard Waterproof Mechanical Stylo Pencil, $30, yslbeautyus.com.

Who: Kate Upton
What: Blue Eyeliner
How: We're still a little freaked out by blue eyeliner, even though it's been prove time and time again to be so gorgeous. But Kate Upton just gave us a masterclass in how to make it look fresh and not in the least bit '80s. We love how her lashline is done in black liner, but the wing is traced in a light blue shade. The hint of color brightens her eyes without reading too bold.
Editor's Pick: Bobbi Brown Perfectly Defined Gel Eyeliner in Sapphire, $27, bobbibrown.com.

Who: Olivia Holt
What: Wet Hair
How: The wet hair look is popular in the summertime, when heat and humidity can wreck anything more polished. We love how Olivia Holt's look at the Espy's was still red carpet ready thanks to tons of volume at the root. It also gave the impression of being wet-ish without looking shiny or greasy. You can get a similar effect by working a hybrid gel-oil or spray wax through dry hair; start at the ends first and work your way up. Once applied, brush your hair into place and let it set so the style holds all day.
Editor's Pick: IGK Rich Kid Coconut Oil Gel, $29, sephora.com.

Who: Taylor Swift
What: Summer Red
How: Taylor Swift has a reputation for knowing her way around a red lipstick. In her Red phase, the formula was creamy and classic. But in this new Swift era, the singer is switching things up. She stepped outside her apartment in NYC this morning wearing a super-bright and matte lipstick perfect for summer. A high-impact matte formula won't budge in the heat and humidity, and you won't even have to reapply it until the end of the day (if that).
Editor's Pick: Laura Mercier Velour Extreme Matte Lipstick in Dominate, $28, sephora.com.
July 16, 2018

Who: Kim Kardashian West
What: Classic Kim
How: When you find a combination of beauty looks that work for you—stick to them. Case in point: Kim Kardashian West looks her best in a super-high ponytail, long fluttery lashes, a golden tan, and nude lipstick. The lipstick is likely her own KKW Beauty brand, and we love how the creamy satin finish looks fresh and youthful. A nude matte would have been too jarring with the rest of her glowy and glossy look.
Editor's Pick: KKW Beauty Creme Lipstick in Nude 1, $18, kkwbeauty.com.

Who: Pippa Middleton
What: Braided Ponytail
How: Pippa Middleton can be a little more adventurous in the hair department than her sister, since she's not held to the same royal standards. Which is why we're freaking out over this adorable braided ponytail the pregnant beauty just wore to Wimbledon. We almost never see the Middleton girls in a braid, and rarely in a ponytail either, but it's a style they both wear so well. Copying the look is as simple as French-braiding a large section on each side of your head, then pulling your hair back into a low ponytail. If your hair is too slippery, blast it with dry shampoo before braiding.
Editor's Pick: Klorane Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk, $20, sephora.com.

Who: Emmy Rossum
What: Summer Smoky Eye
How: Wearing a smoky eye in the summer is a bold move. Just five minutes out in the heat and humidity will all but guarantee that your eye goes from cool-smoky to messy-smoky. But we love how Emmy Rossum took a cooler and lighter approach to the look. Instead of reaching for shades of black, Rossum created the smoky effect with cool and metallic shades of light gray and silver. Black eyeliner was worked only in her lashline, and her skin was kept fresh and natural.
Editor's Pick: Tom Ford Eyeshadow Quad in Titanium Smoke, $88, nordstrom.com.

Who: Emily Blunt
What: Crown Braid
How: It's been a minute since we've seen a a celebrity rock a crown braid when not at a music festival. We've almost forgotten how beautiful and romantic they can be when kept away from rainbow hairspray and glitter. Emily Blunt stepped out yesterday looking like a Boho queen, pairing her rumpled braid with a sparkly pair of statement earrings and glowy makeup for a fresh and summery look. When trying this style on yourself, be sure to use a set of bobby pins the same color as your hair to hold the braid in place.
Editor's Pick: Scunci No-Slip Beautiful Blends Blonde Bobby Pins, $4.49, amazon.com.

Who: Lily Collins
What: '60s Bombshell
How: Lily Collins can wear any look—from any era—and make it look fresh, modern, and damn cool. At the latest Miu Miu runway show, Collins wore a '60s-inspired look with rolled-under ends, a hair bow, mint green eyeshadow, and tons of mascara (her makeup artist Vincent Oquendo confirmed these are indeed all her own eyelashes. Swoon). Eyeshadow this saccharine needs spidery, dramatic black lashes to ground it—natural matte skin and a peachy lipstick finish the look.
Editor's Pick: Lancôme Les Toppings Eyeshadow Palette, $59, lancome-usa.com.

Who: Jessica Chastain
What: Fuchsia Lipstick
How: Throw out any rules you might have been taught about redheads and lipstick. It's 2018—there are no rules about the colors you should and shouldn't wear. Need more proof? Check out Jessica Chastain in NYC, rocking a matte fuchsia lipstick with her signature spiced hair color. If a lip this bright still feels like a shock, try pairing it with a black-and-white outfit, like Chastain, to tone down the overall look.
Editor's Pick: Flesh Proud Flesh Matte Liquid Lip Color in Courage, $20, ulta.com.
June 25, 2018

Who: Janelle Monáe
What: Signature Red Lip
How: Janelle Monáe loves a red lip. It's her signature beauty look. But with a few tweaks, she always manages to make her look fresh and exciting—never dull or expected. We love how she paired the red lip from last night's BET Awards with a warm red-brown eyeshadow swept high across her brow bone. The combination makes the matte crimson lipstick seem less Old Hollywood.
Editor's Pick: Givenchy Le Rouge Liquide in L'Interdit, $37, sephora.com.
June 22, 2018

Who: Bella Hadid
What: Bronze Eyeshadow
How: Bella Hadid stepped out during Paris Fashion Week yesterday wearing a dramatic, winged-out bronze eyeshadow. The supermodel proves that just because an eyeshadow is neutral doesn't mean it has to be boring or basic. Hadid likely used the new warm palette from the Dior Backstage line (she's the face of the campaign). With an eye look this dramatic, wear a lip color in a similar shade to avoid looking too '80s, then keep the rest of your face minimal and fresh.
Editor's Pick: Dior Backstage Eyeshadow Palette in Warm, $49, sephora.com.
June 21, 2018

Who: Rihanna
What: White Eyeliner
How: Gird your loins—now that Rihanna has stepped out wearing white eyeliner, it's set to be the biggest new beauty trend of the summer. What's even more interesting is that Rihanna doesn't wear any makeup these days that isn't either an existing Fenty Beauty product or a preview of things to come. So we can only assume that white liquid eyeliner is on the horizon. We love it paired with a natural flush, glowing skin, and a matching all-white ensemble.
Editor's Pick: Dior Diorshow On Stage Liquid Eyeliner in 001 Matte White, $30.50, sephora.com.

Who: Alison Brie
What: Retro Glam Ponytail
How: “Our inspiration for the look was the ‘60s—we wanted to go very mod to complement her sheer Sandy Liang gown," says hairstylist Robert Vetica, who used a hair extension to get the dramatic length. “To create an anchor for the ponytail, I sprayed Alison’s dry hair heavily with Leonor Greyl Spray Structure Naturelle styling spray, directing the hair upwards with my brush. I guided the hair into a topknot, continuously combing and spraying the hair as I worked to guarantee a strong, tight base for the style. Once the topknot was in place, I sprayed it with Leonor Greyl Laque Souple for hold and shine, then covered the topknot with a hair net to contain flyaways and make attaching the ponytail easier. After securing it in place and concealing the hair net and base knot with hair, I applied on more Eclat Naturel and brushed the ponytail lightly to ensure the look was stable and had gorgeous shine. The finishing touch was a final spray of Laque Souple around the hairline and edges to keep it looking sleek, shiny, and mod.”
Editor's Pick: Leonor Greyl 'Laque Souple' Light to Medium Hold Hair Spray, $36, nordstrom.com.

Who: Natalie Portman
What: Red Lip Hybrid
How: Seeing as she's the face of Dior, it should come as no surprise that Natalie Portman took the brand's new liquid lipstick formula for a spin. The finish is unmistakeable: not quite a lipstick, not quite a gloss, not quite a stain, the odd formula plumps and hydrates and gives you the best of all three products combined. Paired with casual hoop earrings and a polka dot dress, Portman nails a fresh take on a classic beauty look.
Editor's Pick: Dior Dior Addict Lacquer Plump in D-Mesure, $37, sephora.com.
June 14, 2018

Who: Rihanna
What: Classic Red Lip
How: At the London premiere of Ocean's 8, Rihanna wore a red lipstick from her own line Fenty Beauty (because of course). Makeup artist Priscilla Ono used the Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Mattemoiselle Plush Matte Lipstick in Ma’Damn, which they call a royal red. We love how she paired it with glowing skin and golden metallic eyes for a classic but fresh makeup look.
Editor's Pick: Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Mattemoiselle Plush Matte Lipstick in Ma’Damn, $18, sephora.com.
June 13, 2018

Who: Josephine Skriver
What: Glossy Nude Lips
How: Josephine Skriver attended the Fragrance Foundation Awards last night wearing a glossy nude lip so good we want to recreate it ASAP. To get a similar look that really lasts, first line your lips with a nude lipliner pencil slightly darker than your natural lip shade. Fill in both the edges and inside of your lips, then top with a super-slick clear lip gloss. The gloss will disappear after a few hours, but the nude color will stay.
Editor's Pick: Maybelline New York Lip Studio Shine Shot Lip Topcoat, $5.99, maybelline.com.
June 12, 2018

Who: Lupita Nyong'o
What: Embellished Eyes
How: "Her bold yellow Carolina Herrera dress is fun and quirky, so I wanted the make up to be quirky and also kinds of cartoony too," says makeup artist Nick Barose. Since the event was for the accessories council, he added "fun Swarovski cabochon stones in multi colors to echo the dress details." Barose first lined both her lashlines with Lancome DramaLiqui Pencil in Noir. "By framing the eyes with black liner, it adds a good backdrop for the Swarovski, the colors pop more against black." A little lash glue and a toothpick is all you need to get the stones to stick, but press down lightly to ensure they stay. "A hint of happy, sunny, orange-y summer gloss ties it together," Barose adds. He used Lancome L’Absolu Gloss in Be Brilliant.
Editor's Pick: Lancome L'Absolu Lacquer in Be Brilliant, $26, sephora.com.
