Hi! I am new to concealer and I'm wondering how I'm supposed to know what concealer will work best for me. I use tinted moisturizer to even out my skin tone, but I've noticed some redness around my nose and chin that my TM just doesn't seem to be working on these days. So, I think it's time I finally venture into concealer land. But I am clueless as to where to start! Please help, Julie!

Let's take it from the top: You've just washed your face and it's technicolored AF. I wonder what Jennifer Lopez would do? Her makeup artist Mary Philips suggests smoothing on a calming lotion like La Roche-Posay Rosaliac Skin Perfecting Anti-Redness Moisturizer. "If you have very sensitive skin, and are prone to redness all over, it's cooling and soothing, and you will see a reduction in overall redness," Philips says.

When it comes to choosing your best concealer, she employs a palette of neutralizing shades for pro-level camouflage. "One should match the exact color of your skin and one should fit the needs of your blemish," says Philips, who dabs on "a green tinted one to cover redness, and a yellow or orange tint to cover blue or purple hues." Her pick, the Kryolan Dermacolor Camouflage Palette, "might be too makeup-artisty, but if everyone had this palette, they'd look pretty close to flawless." Flawlessness is also available in tiny one-shade pots of concealer.

I have tried roughly 12 million different concealers, starting at age 10 when a department store makeup artist diagnosed my dark under eyes as "impossible to cover." I've found the three below to be some of the most versatile formulas, meaning each one will hide everything from an under eye situation to a cystic pimple.

RMS "Un" Cover-up: This is Karlie Kloss's favorite concealer, so you can expect camera-ready coverage that's still super-lightweight because have you seen makeup-free Kloss's face? There's nothing to hide.

Bobbi Brown Corrector: The white T-shirt of concealer, Bobbi Brown's versatile formula is in every makeup pro's kit to hide minor discoloration.

Kevyn Aucoin The Sensual Skin Enhancer: A freckle-sized blob of this heavy-duty concealer is enough to neutralize under-eye circles. Tread carefully.
