How do you make a frothy couture gown feel low key? By pairing the look with '90s supermodel hair. "The nonchalance of Kirsten Owen, Kristen McMenamy, and Stella Tennant," said hair pro James Pecis, backstage at Valli's spring 2016 couture show. "They would use an elastic strap to roughly push their hair back. This ease and roughness is the perfect juxtaposition to a beautiful couture gown."

To get the laid-back look, James prepped damp hair with Oribe's Maximista Thickening Spray and dried it in before wrapping sections around a 1-inch curling iron "to give the hair the softest bend." Next, James cocktailed Supershine Light Cream and Rough Molding Paste, working both products through the mid-lengths for "a little extra strength and definition."

Once the perfect matte model-y texture was achieved, "I pulled the hair into a low ponytail leaving a slight parting on the right side," James said. And for the finishing touch, "the band fits under the ponytail, dragged back away from the face, about an inch from the hairline."
