If you think your blowout looks better on day three, get excited: Alberta Ferretti does, too. The Italian design donna showed a mix of lush pajamas and silk slip dresses for fall 2016, with a slept-in beauty look to match.
Redken global creative director Guido Palao left the models' hair down, twisting two pieces together at the back a la Claire Danes in Romeo + Juliet (our reference, not his). Seconds before each girl hit the catwalk, he sprayed her with One United to make the hair look damp and slightly windblown.
As for the makeup, Diane Kendal says her inspiration is something we've all had: a hazy early morning walking home from...somewhere. "It's a girl who's had kind of this amazing night, and now it's all the aftermath.... Dewy skin, but also that kind of smudginess."
Kendal fully lined the eyes with black M.A.C Technikhol liner, smudged it into the lash line with a brush, and then used a Q-Tip and some Embryolisse to take most of it off. "Then you can go back into the bottom lash line with the black pencil again, just to give it a worn-in feeling." Put mascara on the top, add some cream blush, and voila: You're officially early on the runway beauty trends, despite looking woefully late for curfew.
But there was one thing missing backstage that makes everyone look better after a long night out: coffee. "We have orange juice, apple juice, pineapple juice, water...but we have no espresso," said the man manning the catering table, "because we do not want the girls to start shaking in their dresses." Plus, caffeine jitters might make it harder to use black eyeliner. We know from experience.
