How to Look Well Rested (When You're Totally Sleep Deprived)
Late night? Nobody has to know.
So you didn't get those recommended eight hours last night. Here's the thing: neither did we, but you can't tell.
Couldn't stop after just one episode of Love on Netflix last night? You definitely do not want to spend 45 minutes on makeup this morning.
What to do? We spoke with M.A.C senior artist, Gina Bettelli, for her tips on how to look alert when you're anything but. Because caffeine can only do so much.
Tip #1: Prep Your Skin
Lighter than foundation, this creamy primer adds a bit of sparkle to your complexion, covers up any blemishes or redness, and evens out skin tone.

Tip #2: Brighten Up Your Under-Eyes
Bettelli's number one tip for looking more awake: "Target the visual culprit of sleep deprivation, dehydration, and debauchery, which always shows up under your eyes. Apply highlighter in a triangular shape below the eyes that extends to the cheekbones."

Tip #3: Work Some Magic on Your Eyes
Lining your upper eyelids with navy makes the whites of your eyes look brighter, thereby making you look more alert. On your lower lash line, go for a white, neutral, or metallic liner. We're keen on silver, as it hides inner rim redness and adds a bit of extra sparkle.

Tip #4: Swipe on Some Gloss
The morning after a late night, your lips, like the rest of your face, will likely be dehydrated. Layer on a moisturizing balm, and top it off with a shiny gloss. It's quicker than lipstick, and will add light to your face. "The easiest route to looking alert is a bright lip," Bettelli says.

Tip #5: Add Some Blush
"Warm up your face with a bit of peach, pink, or plum blush," Bettelli says. "Applying blush on the center of the cheeks breathes life into your entire face."

The Finishing Touch: Highlight Away!
Fuchsia pearls work to brighten the look of skin, mauve helps it catch the light, yellow works against dullness, and the white pearls naturally reflect light. Swirl a fluffy brush through the pearls, and apply where the sun would naturally shine on your face (cheekbones, top of the nose, forehead, and chin): you'll look dewy and alert, and not at all like you were up all night doing...whatever it is you were doing.
