Few surnames boast a pedigree like Hemingway and one branch in the family tree, Dree, is looking to keep it bold-faced with roles in big screen projects and as the face of major ad campaigns, including one for Chloé's new fragrance Fleur de Parfum.

We were able to catch up with her while she prepped for The New Yorkers for Children Gala to discuss, among other things, sweater hoarding, surfing, and her DIY hair mask recipe.

So how did you decide on your beauty look?

I think that I just trust these two [hairstylist Teddi Cranford and makeup artist Cynthia Rose] more than anything. They just know me. They're my spirit animals. They live inside my soul.

What do you usually have in your makeup bag?

I have a concealer—actually, it's a foundation, but I use it as a concealer if there's like a special friend on my face—light bronzer, and one makeup brush, and a YSL brown mascara that I really love. I normally alo have a red lipstick or a big lip pencil stick. That's pretty much it!

As far as the new Chloé Fleur de Parfum, which I'm assuming you'll be wearing tonight, can you describe it in a few words?

I think it's very free. It's timeless, it's young, it's fresh. I think it's the Chloé woman in a bottle.

And how is it different than the Chloé signature scent that you're also the face of?

I just think it's more subtle. There are some different flower notes but still the rose, which is their number one.

So it sounds like it's a good daytime fragrance?

Yeah, but I don't really have a switch-up. I'm the person who gets ready and my daytime look is usually my nighttime look. [laughs] I just spritz it over my head so it kind of lands in my hair and put a little bit on my wrists and go.

Do you have a style muse?

Katharine Hepburn and my aunt, Margaux. I grew up watching Katharine Hepburn movies and she was just my idea of what a strong woman was. There was an elegance and a grace about her, but she definitely had her own voice in what she wore and more of a masculine aspect and I really liked that. And my aunt Margaux is beautiful and family, and also embodied that '70s Studio 54 look that is so iconic.

You worked with Inez and Vinoodh again for the Chloé ads who I know you've had a longstanding relationship with. Are there other photographers that you love working with or you would like to work with in the future?

I love working with Alasdair Mclellan and Angelo Pennetta and Bruce Weber. They're kind of my favorites. I would love to work with Tyrone Lebon and some of these newer English photographers who I really appreciate. And I would love to work with Meisel at one point.

What about as far as on the acting side? Are there any directors that you would love to work with?

I really want to work with Wes Anderson. And I would love to work with Tim Burton. I just like how their minds work.

I feel like back in the day "slashers" were not as respected, but now it's pretty normal to hold down a couple of jobs.

Yeah, I hate it being called a slasher because it's weird. The only time I ever call people slashers is like if they're, like, a slash DJ. I mean I've been asked to DJ, and I did it once and I was horrible.

So what kind of music do you listen to?

A wide array of music. I listen to a lot of rock n' roll, and, recently, a lot more punk. I also listen to old rap a lot. And then Sigur Rós is so beautiful... it's like a made-up language. That's my favorite thing; I'm convinced I hear words in it. And then Bon Iver is amazing. I'm very excited for his new album... he only has one song out right now and I put it on repeat.

You have to travel a lot for work and you're bicoastal, so do you have a favorite place?

I love Tokyo more than anything. It's phenomenal. Like being in an alien universe. The culture is so incredible and the aesthetic is insane. It's unlike anything I've ever experienced. I found some of the best vintage over there and I became obsessed with yakitori.

Do you have any travel beauty tips for arriving at your destination looking fairly normal?

I try to drink a lot of water and just like have hydrated skin, but I think it's hard flying. It's hard not feeling kind of gross and bloated after a plane. I'll bring my own snacks, water, and Emergen-C packs. Sometimes I'll do an oxygen mask; there's one from Ling Skincare that I really like. It's just white and kind of creamy; you put it on and you can sleep in it as well.

Did your mother give you any beauty advice growing up?

My mom's never really been greatly into that. She's very natural with her products and so I'll go raid her cabinets sometimes and see like what weird serums she has. I grew up taking homeopathics, like Rescue Remedy.

So did you ever do the DIY thing and whip up a mask or hair treatment in your kitchen?

No. My sister told me I should put mayonnaise and eggs in my hair once so I did that, but it was disgusting. I would love to be able to make my own facial mask and like rub a banana all over my face, but I just also wanna eat it, so…

Epilogue:

Dree decides at the last moment to ditch the dress in favor of leather pants and a peasant-y top.

How did you decide to change into this?

I don't know. I'm just gonna go more casual then everybody else. I've done a strong eye so we are balancing it out with a 'less' look, if you will.
