#TheLIST: Beauty Goes Sci-Fi
Perfume that smells like the moon. Magnetic eyeshadows. A Stormtrooper mask that zaps away acne. These are the new beauty moments truly out of this world.
There's a quiet love affair brewing between the beauty industry and the world of sci-fi. We saw it this season at the Chanel runway show, where models walked through a server room accompanied by Robo Coco robots. There was also the alien-like glittery shapes tattooed on the models' faces at Giamba. This year, more beautiful women than ever before will headline sci-fi flicks like Passengers, Rogue One, Arrival, and Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planet. And then there are the beauty products—masks, eyeshadows, and perfumes—that have drawn inspiration from science and the boundaries outside our own galaxy. Here, our edit of the latest and greatest beauty-meets-science-fiction moments.
1
Magnetic Fields
Dr. Brandt
You slather on this mask just like any other, but it's the way you remove it that's truly freaky. After 10 minutes, wave the included magnetic wand over your skin and watch as the masks leaps off your face. Pat-in the remaining oils for glowy, soft skin.

Moon Landing
Like wet rocks on a muggy spring day, this moon-inspired perfume has a defined mineral note that eventually gives way to airy white florals.
Maison Martin Margiela Replica Dancing On The Moon, $180, barneys.com
Makeup artist Pat McGrath created a variety of otherworldly looks at the spring 2017 Maison Martin Margiela show.

Over The Moon
These glittery, pigmented eyeshadows come with their very own tiny, built-in brush applicator. You can swipe them easily along your upper or lower lashline for a subtle touch of glitz, or layer a few on for maximum impact.
Jennifer Lawrence rocks a chic wavy lob in December's sci-fi thriller Passengers. Her hair is even more impressive considering she just woke up from induced hibernation to find herself aboard a spaceship hurtling toward another planet. The wonders of space travel.

The Martian
The face oil helps to clear and hydrate acne-prone skin, while the water-light toner keeps shine at bay when layered under moisturizer.

Space Buns

One of the most iconic '90s hairstyles is back, and it's cuter than ever. Space buns have recently popped up on the likes of Cara Delevingne, Chiara Ferragni, and Karlie Kloss.

Nebula Scents
These unisex fragrances are unlike anything you've smelled before. Nebula 1 (at left) is meant to channel the "darkness of the endless universe." It's a bold and animalistic citrus scent that eventually heats up with the help of peculiar notes like star anise, balsam, saffron, and woods. Nebula 2 is similarly strange (in a good way); a bright metallic and vegetal scent that leans more masculine than the former.
Cara Delevingne (and her messy blonde waves) stars alongside Rihanna in the sci-fi adventure flick Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, out next summer.

Into The Light
You're going to feel a little silly wearing this mask at home—like a Stormtrooper in pajamas. But it's all in the name of clear skin. After a month of daily 10-minute sessions, the red and blue light helps to reduce acne-causing bacteria on your skin.
The graphic blue-and-silver eyeshadow wings at Versace's fall 2016 couture show were later described by makeup artist Pat McGrath as "really futuristic" and "cyber."

Holographic Highlighter
This highlighter leaves behind a slick, iridescent, purple and pink glow that looks like something from another galaxy.
Model Bella Hadid wears stark white eyeliner with an all-silver ensemble, her sister Gigi takes chrome eyeliner and slick hair for a spin, and Jessica Hart serves up a futuristic metallic look for this year's beauty-meets-tech-themed Met Gala.

Stellar Spritz
So the only thing really spacey about this toner is the fact that it's from a brand named Cosmos and has a cute little moon on the packaging. But what's inside matters too! Just a few spritzes will make clean skin a little more calm and clear—and that's some science we can get behind.
Jenna Rosenstein is the Beauty Director at BAZAAR.com. While attending NYU, she held internships at Women’s Wear Daily, Bloomingdale’s, Harper’s BAZAAR (as Glenda’s intern!) and Allure, the latter of which she parlayed into her first job as the Beauty Assistant. She left Allure three years later as the Senior Beauty Editor, spent a few months at Refinery29 in the same title overseeing branded content, before finally landing back at BAZAAR to oversee all digital beauty content. When she's not testing every lipstick known to mankind, getting zapped by new lasers, or interviewing experts and celebrities, you can find Rosenstein re-watching Star Wars movies, reading books about new discoveries in science and health, and playing with her Bombay cat named Maddie.
