FOREO has been making a splash in the beauty industry for a few years now with their innovative skincare tools for the face. FOREO products feature T-Sonic technology, which creates special pulsations that penetrate pores deeply, helping to both cleanse and promote product absorption into the skin. They are also pretty effing expensive.

Their LUNA cleansing devices have been getting a lot of attention lately, so I decided to give them a go and see what the fuss was about. I was seduced by the promise that these tools remove up to 99.5% of dirt, bacteria and makeup, and that they are 35 times more hygienic than nylon-bristled brushes. So I tested out the LUNA 2 mini ($139) and the LUNA 2 ($199), which are pretty similar except for their size and price. The full-sized LUNA 2 has a few options specifically designed for different types of skin, but I just used the "normal" one.

Now, before you keep reading, there are a few things you should know. Firstly, I could not fathom paying $200 for a facial scrubber. That seems insane to me, and probably to you too. I am the type of person who will scrape the barrel of Amazon knock-offs and cheap alternatives before EVER paying full-price for the "luxury" or brand name version of something. Secondly, I called these products in to test them, with the caveat that I'd only write about them if I felt confident that I would spend my own money on them after trying them out. And despite being cheap AF, one of these products has made my skin look and feel so amazing that I wouldn't think twice before forking over the cash for it.

I requested the LUNA mini 2 and the LUNA 2 full size version to test out because I wanted to compare them to see if the pricier one was worth the extra money. Spoiler alert: it's not.

Both of these devices are rechargeable and completely waterproof, meaning I could use them in the shower without risking my life. A charge lasts up to 5 months on each, and since there's no need to replace the head or the bristles, you basically never have to deal with upkeep. All good things to start off.

I decided to use each of them for a full week just so I could compare and contrast their functions. To use, all you have to do is add your cleanser onto the bristles, turn it on, and scrub gently in circular motions. The biggest differences I came across had to do with pulsation intensity and shape. The full-sized LUNA 2 had a more powerful vibration, which I didn't necessarily like. It kind of made me feel like I was getting a very painless and gentle tattoo on my face, not in a massage-y kind of way but in a sitting-on-a-motorcycle kind of way. Its shape did made it easier to get into all the nooks and crannies though, so I'll give it that. I just really didn't feel like the convenience of the shape accounted for the discrepancy in cost.

After spending a week using each device, I found myself gravitating towards the mini. Both devices made my skin feel insanely soft and cleansed, but I suppose the larger one just felt excessive. I appreciated the size of the mini 2, and it's definitely the one I'd recommend people get. I would happily pay for it, considering how amazing it has made my skin feel. What in the f*ck was I thinking using a dirty washcloth to scrub my face before?! I now only use my charcoal peel mask only once a week instead of three times a week because the LUNA is so insanely effective at keeping my pores clean.

If you have a specific skin problem or sensitivity, though, I do think the LUNA 2 would be your best bet. FOREO offers a variety of options designed to work with different types of skin, from ultra-sensitive to oily. The mini 2 may be too tough on extremely sensitive skin, though I consider my skin sensitive and I think it's magical.
