Gigi Hadid stepped out last night to celebrate the Marc Jacobs Redux Grunge Collection wearing a hairstyle we love dearly but always forget about when we're staring in the mirror and holding elastics: space buns. The cooler cousin to pigtails, space buns are a fun and whimsical hairstyle that looks great on all hair textures.

This isn't the first time Hadid has rocked the style. She previously wore a half-up version both on the Anna Sui runway and while in Japan to promote her Tommy Hilfiger collection. Though the style is almost as synonymous with festivals as flower crowns, we love seeing Hadid's more casual version that doesn't allude to anything glittery or costume-y. If you do decide to wear space buns this holiday season, just be prepared to dodge Princess Leia comments left and right.

The real reason to love space buns? They're best whipped up on dirty hair. To get the look, first decide how you want your part: surgically straight or rumpled like Hadid's. Pull your hair into two pigtails high up on your head, making sure to smooth any major bumps along the base of your head. If you have a layered haircut, now's the time to blast the underside of the pigtails with hairspray or smear on a little strong hold gel. If your hair is curly or kinky, use styling cream to smooth each section before creating two buns. If your hair is fine or straight, mist each length of pigtail with a texture spray or dry shampoo, coil them, then wrap and pin them around an elastic. Pull apart any section that looks too flat so each bun is equally fluffy and three-dimensional. Set the style with hairspray to ensure it lasts for hours.
