There are a lot of cool things out there that make us wonder — do they really work? In our I Tried It series, we set out to use them in the real world and have determined that, in fact, they really do.

A CBD soap is not something I ever knew I needed. CBD? In a soap? What does that even mean?

I’d never even tried the buzzy oils that everyone is talking about, so I had no idea what kind of benefits it could offer in a beauty product. But after meeting Emily Heitman, chief marketing officer and chief operating officer of LEEF Organics, who introduced me to the brand's Nooks + Crannies bar soap, I became fully obsessed.

If you’re new to CBD like I was, I suggest checking out this guide that’ll give you the full rundown, but the quick version is that it stands for cannabidiol, a cannabis compound that can provide numerous health benefits — including relief from arthritis, anxiety, and insomnia, to name a few — without the psychoactive properties found in marijuana. So, in case you were wondering, washing up with this soap won’t get you high!

What’s unique about LEEF Organics is that the brand uses a whole-plant extraction technique. According to Heitman, this is important because “the whole plant is certainly greater than the sum of its parts! When you use the whole, you get a beautiful multiple effect where one plus one equals five, because the plant can work more effectively and efficiently with all other compounds intact.”

LEEF Organics has four different Nooks + Crannies soaps, but the one I tried is the black chamomile bar soap. It’s dusted with actual chamomile — and let me tell you, it smells AMAZING. The scent lasts around five to 10 uses, and it makes the entire bathroom smell like a spa. I love it as a soap alone, but as a bonus, it contains 20 milligrams of organic, whole-flower CBD extract.

Heitman says, “as we stand in a warm shower, our pores are readily taking in what we put on. It is at this time that CBD (plus the other botanicals) are absorbed into the skin and begin doing their good work: reducing inflammation, soothing skin, free-radical fighting and hydrating.”

The anti-inflammatory properties are why you should consider using skincare that contains CBD! This soap is great for all skin types, and it’s even known to work wonders for calming down eczema.

Now for my favorite part: The simple paper packaging actually contains seeds, and if you plant it in soil, it’ll grow organic, non-GMO tomatoes, since LEEF wants to make sure no part goes to waste. How genius is that?

The four different soap types are cucumber melon, white tea and ginger, charcoal and clay, and black chamomile, and each goes for $22. It’s the perfect gift for yourself or a CBD-obsessed friend!
