There are a lot of cool things out there that make us wonder — do they really work? In our I Tried It series, we set out to use them in the real world and have determined that, in fact, they really do.

On Trial: Lipstick Queen Frog Prince Lipstick

The Tester: Ashley Phillips, lip balm addict

The Brief: As much as I love to experiment with makeup, green lipstick is usually where I draw the line. But Lipstick Queen’s Frog Prince isn’t actually a green lipstick; it uses some sort of cosmetics witchcraft to only show up pink on your pout! Not only that, but it actually adapts to your skin’s pH levels to create a shade that’s completely customized to each wearer — meaning everyone gets the perfect color every time.

Still, knowing all this, I was a bit hesitant to give it a try. But in the name of makeup, I swiped on a coat to see if this lippie really lives up the hype (it has 600-plus five-star reviews on Amazon alone). Drumroll please … it actually works! No green in sight. Just a rosy, natural-looking pink shade that’s anything but crazy bold.

In fact, it looked and felt more like a lip balm thanks to moisturizing ingredients like shea butter and vitamin E. I also found that the color becomes more noticeable over the course of a few hours, but in a way that’s just as lovely. I’m a self-proclaimed tinted lip balm addict, and it didn’t take long for this to replace all my previous favorites! Gone are the days of scouring the lipstick counter for a flattering pink shade, because I can keep this in my makeup bag, and know that it always works.

For more evidence of the color-changing magic, I had a few other BestProducts.com editors give it a try — and here's what they had to say!

"It's a perfect no-makeup lipstick because it's easy to apply and not very pigmented."

"It's so shocking how something that starts out green can look so natural. I really love the color. I did use a primer before applying the lipstick, and found that it helped make the color last longer and kept my lips moisturized. I would definitely use this lipstick on a daily basis!" — Erica Murphy, associate SEO director

"You would never think that a green-colored lipstick would actually reveal a pretty pink hue once it graces your lips, but it does! To be honest, I was skeptical about trying this on, however, it was extremely hydrating, as if I just swiped on a bit of lip balm. Interestingly enough, as the day went on, my lips became an even deeper shade of pink, making the lipstick incredibly noticeable. The best part? I don’t feel like I have to remove it when taking a bite of my sandwich!" — Sanah Faroke, contributing editor

"I think it's a perfect no-makeup lipstick because it's easy to apply and not very pigmented. It's a pretty sheer pink on me, I like its softness, and I don't expect it to dry out my lips. I didn't expect a lipstick to look and feel so much like a balm, so if someone is looking for drama or matte this is not for that lewk!" — Kayla Ramsey, visuals editor & photographer

Closing Argument: If you’re looking for a statement lip color, then Frog Prince is not going to be it. But I’ve found it to be incredibly versatile for most day-to-day looks. Whether I’m going light on the makeup or need something subtle to pair with a smoky eye, the sheer, glossy pink is a perfect complement.
