YouTube comment sections are always a hotbed of dissent and debate. But on our Go To Bed With Me videos—a peek inside the nightly routine of our favorite celebrities, experts and influencers—the myths and facts around skin care in the comments are on another level. In this episode of Derm Reacts, we called in leading board-certified skin expert Dr. Michelle Henry to react to some of the most passionate comments on our Go to Bed with Me episodes. Henry, who specializes in everything from acne consultations to botox and fillers at the Laser & Skin Surgery Center of New York, weighs in on everything from how to choose the right cleanser to whether or not you should slather lemon juice on your face.

"I don't have one specific cleansing method that I recommend for all patients," Henry starts the episode. "What's really important is that you know your skin type."

Should we alternate our cleansers?

Changing our daily skin care routines may inspire fear out of the bravest of us. Doing so, some may think, can lead to acne break outs or aggravating sensitive parts of our visage. However, Henry gives the green light on this skin care trick. "Our skin changes," she said. "The weather changes. Our micro environment changes from day to day. And some days, I have normal to combination skin. Some days I'm dry and some days I'm oily. And I really do have to change my products and my cleanser on a daily or weekly basis based on my skin's needs."

Is lemon juice good for our skin?

If you're one for using all-natural treatments, it may be tempting to integrate lemon or other citrus fruits into your daily skin care routine. That, however, is something that Dr. Henry advises against. "Lemon can be really drying," she says. "It can actually be quite caustic to the skin. Further, citrus fruits can cause something we call phytophotodermatitis." Phytophotodermatitis is a type of dermatitis that causes skin inflammation when exposed to the sun.
