Problem: I have no skill when it comes to updos. Even my messy buns don't come out right.

Solution: The Goody Spin Pins give me the chic chignon I never thought was possible!

I was introduced to the Goody Spin Pins by a stylish former boss of mine. Every day she wore her hair in a perfectly twisted low bun, and I just assumed this was some mysterious feminine art form that she innately knew. It wasn't until she pulled out a spiral-shaped Spin Pin from her chignon one day that I learned her secret. Even better — these pins are sold at pretty much any drugstore and take no effort to use!

These little metal helixes are as no-frills as it gets, at less than $10 for a set of two. To use, I pull back my hair into a low ponytail, then twist it until it coils naturally into a spiral at the base of my neck. Then I take a Spin Pin or two, stick them into the underside of the bun, and twist until they're securely holding my bun in place!

For you visual learners, here's a quick video tutorial:

The dark-colored Goody Spin Pins blend right into my dark brown, clavicle-length hair, but they also come in a golden version if you're blonde, and a mini style if your hair is any shorter than shoulder length. I've found that they work best with "dirtier" hair, as my freshly washed hair just doesn't grip it as well.

Between using coiled Invisibobbles and the Spin Pins to keep my hair tied back, it seems as though spiral-shaped products are my holy grail — I may never have to use another too-tight, dent-inducing hair elastic ever again.

If you're looking for an uncomplicated updo to mix it up from your usual top knot, I highly recommend giving these Goody Spin Pins a whirl!
