Summer is the season to have fun with your makeup, and if the runway trends are any indication, we’ll be doing just that. Bright, uplifting colors are having a moment, while techniques are taking a turn for the unexpected. Whether you’re in the market for a total reinvention or just a simple color swap, your new look awaits. Read on for the eight trends we’re predicting will take over summer 2020.

Neon Eyes

At the Oscar de la Renta Spring 2020 show, models in draped evening gowns proved that bright, colorful eye makeup can look just as cool with a fancy dress as it does at a pool party.

Can’t decide which color to try? Look to Dua Lipa, who wore a rainbow of neons and matching tops with the help of makeup artist Lisa Eldridge.

Any Glitter Goes

Summer always benefits from a little sparkle, and this year it will travel to new, more extra heights. Case in point: Gigi Hadid in the Off-White show, modeling chunky glitter across the bridge of the nose. Use biodegradable, non-plastic glitter whenever possible!

For the ultra-daring: Try the glitter cheeks at Marc Jacobs, made even more impactful on an otherwise bare face. Use biodegradable, non-plastic glitter whenever possible!

5

Over-the-Top Blush

Why should cheeks have all the fun? At Sies Marjan, models showed off blush that extended up to the temples and onto the eyelid for an ethereal, ultra-romantic look.

6

Over-the-Top Blush

Lili Reinhart’s peachy-pink monochrome makeup courtesy of Patrick Ta has a similar effect, but with a touch less drama.

7

Floating Eyeliner

Mod liner like Yara Shahidi’s adds a graphic update using products you already have in your makeup bag. To get her look, draw an extended cat-eye with your liquid liner of choice, then add another line across the crease, connecting the two at the outside corner.

Floating Eyeliner

To take the trend even further, try using a playful eyeliner shade like Shay Mitchell’s neon green.

9

Over-the-Top Lashes

When models walked down the runway in giant feather lashes in the Valentino Spring 2019 couture show, an Instagram sensation was born. The latest incarnation of the trend, these tiny flowers on Kendall Jenner are likely just as much of a commitment, but they sure look cool.

Over-the-Top Lashes

Pastel mascara, like this pretty lavender on Karen Gillan, are just as fun and statement-making, but slightly easier to pull off in day-to-day life. (We like Yves Saint Laurent Le Curler Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils in Violet Malicieux.)

11

Watercolor Lids

Rather than blending neutral shades for a traditional smoky eye, try pairing contrasting shadows for a graphic look a la the models at Christian Siriano.

Watercolor Lids

Never one to shy away from a daring makeup trend, Kylie Jenner paired the look with a clean cat-eye.

Summer Blues

From a simple swipe of navy liner to a deep, dimensional cobalt look like Emily DiDonato’s here, cool blues have never been hotter.

The shade isn’t reserved solely for eyes. Bright turquoise lipstick is an unexpected way to add edge to summer looks, as the models at Chromat demonstrated.

Stained, Glossy Lips

The just-bitten stained lip at Chanel got a summery update thanks to a swipe of Rouge Coco Gloss in Crystal Clear.

Stained, Glossy Lips

Overachiever Sara Sampaio wore the look alongside another makeup trend, deep blue shadow and a braid, one of the season's biggest hair trends.
