More often than not, some of our favorite buys are small, how-didn’t-I-know-about-this products that solve an everyday problem. That’s what we’re highlighting in our Little Lifesavers series: cheap, simple purchases that you’ll use on the daily. Hit “Add to Cart” and thank us later!

Problem: My hands are bone-dry from washing my hands so much.

Solution: Adding Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion to my hand-washing routine has helped me treat my dry and irritated skin.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and World Health Organization (WHO) say that one of the easiest ways to avoid the spread of viruses is proper and consistent hand hygiene.

Dermatologists also say that excessive hand-washing and hand sanitizer can strip the skin of natural oils, which leads to dry, cracked, and sensitive skin. My reptilian-like dry hands were living proof that obsessive hand-washing can take a toll on one’s skin.

Aveeno’s Daily Moisturizing Lotion is the best remedy I’ve come across for dealing with the side effects of constant hand-washing, and I’ve tested many lotions.

Most lotions I’ve used don’t absorb into my skin and sit on my hands like cake frosting. This isn’t the case with Aveeno. In just 30 seconds, it fully absorbs into my palms and doesn’t leave behind any sort of waxy, greasy residue.

I also like that this lotion has an extremely subtle, faint scent. The Gold Bond lotion I previously tried didn’t soak in as quickly, and it was too perfumey for my tastes. I also found the consistency of CeraVe’s Daily Moisturizing Lotion to be too runny and thin. The Aveeno lotion maintains its thicker texture significantly better without being clumpy, plus it’s easy to rub in.

My dermatologist recommended Aquaphor to me, and although it works well, it’s annoyingly greasy and even stained my clothes. I’ve heard amazing things about Weleda Skin Food (even Rihanna uses it) but the Aveeno lotion is much more affordable at less than 50¢ per ounce compared to the Weleda’s much steeper $5.00-per-ounce asking price.

Aveeno’s formula is free from potentially hazardous or allergy-inducing parabens, which are preservatives that prevent the growth of mold. It comes in an 18-ounce pump bottle, which I prefer to a tube so I don’t end up squeezing out too much product. And while tubs of moisturizer might be a better value, when you dip your fingers into them, you’re risking contamination.

Aveeno’s Daily Moisturizing Lotion is the key to treating and preventing dry, scaly, or cracked hands. If you want your hands to go from iguana status to dolphin-smooth in practically no time, it’s a no-brainer!
