There are a lot of cool things out there that make us wonder — do they really work? In our I Tried It series, we set out to use them in the real world and have determined that, in fact, they really do.

On Trial: Fenty Beauty Slip Shine Sheer Shiny Lipstick

Tester: Zarah Kavarana, lipstick hoarder and Fenty fanatic

The Brief: During this universally unproductive period of our existence where I consider wearing actual pants to be a personal accomplishment, Rihanna has managed to bust out multiple game-changing Fenty Beauty launches, and they're making me want to put on my favorite funky 'fit (or just anything that's not pajamas) and parade around my living room with a badass beat face.

RiRi released a range of highly anticipated cream blushes and bronzers back in April, with Fenty Skin set to launch at the end of July. But the drop I just couldn't wait to get my hands on was one of the brand's more recent additions, the Slip Shine Sheer Shiny Lipstick. Try saying that three times fast.

It joins the brand's already extensive lineup of lipstick collections, which includes fan favorites like Mattemoiselle, Poutsicle, Stunna Lip Paint, and the limited-edition Starlit line. But unlike the rest, this $22 tube effortlessly coats your lips with a sheer kiss of color and tons of lustrous shine. I like to think of it as a cross between a lipstick and a lip gloss (yes, it's that shiny).

The Fenty Beauty Slip Shine Sheer Shiny Lipstick is a super creamy stick application that seamlessly melts into the crevices of your lips the second it touches them. I found that it doesn't cling onto dry spots, and, in fact, can help hydrate them — thanks to a rich and comfortable formula that's fortified with nourishing pomegranate oil to lock in moisture.

Its available in 10 mostly minimalist shades, though the line's more daring hues —bubblegum pink $uga Kiss, plummy Vamps Who Brunch, and juicy tangerine-toned Tang Thang (my personal favorite) — are worth experimenting with if you're looking to refresh your socially distanced style with a cute, but barely-there color. There's even a clear, iridescent option, fittingly named Quartz Candy, that makes for a nice glossy topper over your favorite matte lipstick.

And though the shades are designed to be sheer, I found them to be completely buildable, so you can customize your preferred level of coverage. Swipe on a single fluid stroke for a subtle flush of pigment, or lacquer it up for a more defined and daring pout.

Closing Argument: Fenty Beauty's Slip Shine Sheer Shiny Lipstick combines subtle, yet buildable color with a glossy shine to make lips look and feel equally luxurious.
