Problem: Traditional makeup wipes are wasteful and costly.
Solution: The $20 Original MakeUp Eraser, a reusable makeup-melting washcloth that removes layers of stubborn products with just water.
For every waterproof mascara that I impulsively add to my cart, I precautionarily throw in a package of heavy-duty makeup wipes, knowing that I'll need at least three sheets to scrub off a single swipe. It surprises me how quickly I run out of a standard 25-count stack every time, but after a long day, I'm lucky if I can muster up enough energy to take off my makeup at all.
While way more convenient than washing your face, it's no surprise that regularly using makeup wipes can be extremely wasteful and damaging to the environment. In fact, an estimated 20 million pounds of single-use wipes are disposed of every day in the United States — most of which ends up in landfills. But thanks to the Original MakeUp Eraser, the solution is a lot simpler than switching to a tedious wash, rinse, and repeat routine.

So what sets it apart from a washcloth or towel you already own? Unlike woven bath towels that are merely meant to absorb liquid, the Original MakeUp Eraser is made up of millions of hairlike fibers that stand straight up when wet to suction out all of the makeup, dirt, and oil from each pore.
Its super plush and fuzzy texture deceptively means business. Just a few swipes in circular motions did the trick for me, completely removing all traces of my foundation, lipstick, brow gel, blush, and yes, even waterproof mascara. While I found that my eye makeup required a little more effort and scrubbing, it came off fairly gently, without stinging or irritating my eyes the way makeup wipes typically do.
While I loved its short-fibered side — intended for taking makeup off — I wasn't quite as impressed with its textured long-fibered side that's meant for gentile exfoliating. I personally found it difficult to figure out which was which (the exfoliating side is the one with the tag), and didn't experience much of a difference between the two upon comparatively using them.
Once you're done, the Original MakeUp Eraser can be wrung out and hung to dry. It's completely machine-washable for up to 1,000 washes, and in fact, the brand recommends that you wash the cloth before using it for the first time to activate its fibers and prevent staining. Washing it once or twice a week can prevent you from spreading bacteria with every swipe, so throw it in with your regular load of laundry to keep that pretty face cleansed and clean.
