Changing up your hair can give you a whole new look — and be a lot of fun. What's not so fun? Putting in a ton of work to get it. Fortunately, one of the biggest hair trends of the summer takes next-to-no effort.

When we asked celebrity stylist Marcus Francis what the most popular hairstyle is right now, he told us that it's "a deep side part, reminiscent of the '90s." In addition to reaffirming our belief that '90s hair and makeup trends will never die, his observation also gives beauty lovers an easy way to alter their style.

Want to try this trend? Here's how to pull it off without looking like you just stepped out of Freaks and Geeks.

Step 1: Smooth your hair

Unless you're feeling extra fond of the '80s, you want a smooth, sleek foundation for your asymmetrical part, so start by brushing out any tangles in your hair first.

To give your hair a little shine, apply a small bit of smoothing cream like Fekkai Advanced Brilliant Glossing Cream. If you have particularly thin hair, skip the cream, as it can make your locks look more greasy. For more volume, try a boosting powder like Eufora Powder Lift.

Step 2: Part it

Hold a comb to the highest part of your eyebrow and part your hair above it, then work backwards with it through your hair to create a side part.

Step 3: Finish it off

Spritz on a finishing spray to keep your hair intact all day long.

This part has room for tons of variation, so play with it to determine your favorite style. If you want to add some extra flair, try using a colorful clip or a couple bobby pins on the wider side. To keep your hair out of your face, pull it into a ponytail or bun after making the side part.
