While the right shoe or bag may convey niche insider status, perfume works in sort of the opposite way: Once a fragrance reaches ubiquity, it loses some of its appeal. Which is part of the reason why luxury fragrance brands encourage layering, the art of wearing more than one scent at once. Tom Ford Private Blend, Jo Malone, and Byredo for example, all make fragrances that play well together. Starting today, Victoria's Secret enters the game with the VS Fantasies Fragrance Studio, a 19-piece collection featuring 14 scents you already know and love, plus five newbies made for mixing. When the full set arrived in the ELLE beauty closet last week, we uncapped and huffed each one. It turns out Victoria's Secret scents are a lot like Drake songs: moody, intense, and addictive. Inspired by Drake's most popular songs, we remixed 10 new VS fragrances to match the artist's well-known lyrics.
Hate Sleeping Alone
Layer fruity, floral Love Addict over Dream and you've captured the melancholy of the solo snooze Drake sings about. The scent evokes, "I just hate sleeping alone, I hate sleeping alone."
Girls Love Beyoncé
"Girls Love Beyoncé" features Coconut Passion mixed with Sheer Love, a sweet vanilla floral that evokes the desperation in feeling "these days it's hard to meet women. Feel like my love life is finished."
Blessings
This combination, a sweet, floral blend of Secret Charm and Love Spell, inspired by Big Sean and Drake's "Blessings" whispers: "I'm here for a good time not a long time."
Crew Love
A warm, heady mix of Amber Romance and Secret Escape, "Crew Love" is for "smoking weed under star projectors."
Hold on We're Going Home
As spontaneous and steamy as an onstage Madonna makeout, "Hold On We're Going Home," features a unique blend of apple, vanilla Passion Struck and plum freesia Pure Seduction that screams, "I want your hot love and emotion."
Hotline Bling
"Hotline Bling" captures "glasses of champagne out on the dance floor" with a mix of fruity Such a Flirt and creamy Amber Romance that culminates in after-the-club sex with an ex.
HYFR
The scent for someone who'd ever earnestly ask, "do you ever get nervous?" "HYFR" evokes the nerves of new attraction with a blend of sweet, beachy Coconut Passion and floral Romantic.
Started From The Bottom
A decadent blend of Dream, Secret Escape, and Passion Struck, "Started From The Bottom" subtly says: "I wear every single chain even when I'm in the house."
