Over 50 Ways to Wear Fall's Best Hair Colors
It's time for your next dye job.
There's sadly no way for me to stop asking my stylist to give me blonde hair every six months (and to be told no, every six months) but at least I can still pine after celebrities and their ever-changing hair colors. As the seasons change, I think we'll all be getting the urge to book a salon appointment and change things up. Before you know it, you'll be swapping out sarongs for sweaters, sandals for duck boots, so why not add a little dye touch-up to the list? Whether you want to mimic the Fall mood on your head–like say, go super dark or red for Thanksgiving–or you can to brighten up a cold season–hello, sunkissed!–we've assembled a master list for you. To help you get a jump start on your new colorway, we asked New York City colorist Stephanie Brown for her best bets for fall. From Bey-inspired honey browns to The Megan Rapinoe™, your next dye job awaits.
Truly Dark
Doesn't cold weather make you feel sultry and a little mysterious? Think dark–not blue-black, but nothing sunkissed. A warmer undertone helps the look feel less like a wig and more like a new attitude, and will help avoid that awful, "Oh you dyed your hair" conversations.
Halsey
For an edgier look, chopped locks help this dark look become as cool as can be.
Orion Carloto
The shag is here to stay, so style a darker fringe like Instagram baddie Orion Carloto. Nothing says rocker chick more like a layered, dark 'do.
Cinnamon Ombré
The world's most beautiful human wears this style which means you, too, should try the warm brunette look. Brown recommends medium brunettes add a few cinnamon ombré pieces. "You don’t want to do too many because you don’t want hair to look brassy so just a few pops of that warm color brighten up your face," says Brown. "It adds dimension to make hair look fuller and shinier."
Zendaya
For added dimension to waves, Zendaya rocked the sunkissed look with a subtle ombre at the end of her miles-long hair.
Mindy Kaling
Kaling has also worked some warmer tones into her dark hair. Adding rich texture is a simple way to update your beauty aesthetic for the new season.
Eva Longoria
Another ombré enthusiast is Eva Longoria. Her cinnamon-tinged color brought a new element to her trendy bob.
Halle Bailey
To really make her 'do pop, Halle Bailey added some honey tones in her hair. If the Little Mermaid can do it, so can you.
Jenna Dewan
Streaks of cinnamon also found their way into Jenna Dewan's sleek brunette bob.
Lily Aldridge
A sprinkle of cinnamon grants Aldridge's some definite edge.
Jessica Alba
Alba's ombré blends several fall colors for an effortless step into September.
Mushroom Blonde
"We will still being seeing a lot of mushroom blonde and dirty brunette," explains Brown. " While "bronde" has always had more golden tones, mushroom blonde tends to be more neutral with a few lighter ombré highlights/ woven in."
Camille Rowe
Nothing says "French girl chic" like a super natural head of blonde hair. The subtle highlights and lowlights really complete the look.
Jessica Biel
Biel has also recently given off "dirty brunette" vibes via her go-to wavy locks.
Blake Lively
Lively's latest look is less boldly blonde and more in step with the mushroom blonde moment.
Suki Waterhouse
Waterhouse has also stepped out in a hairstyle that feels part of the thriving mushroom blonde family.
Sarah Jessica Parker
SJP has often straddled the line between blonde and brunette manes.
Kate Beckinsale
Beckinsale is fall ready with her ombré highlights.
Golden Black
"For dark, almost-black brunettes, go with an almost gold undertone for the hair," says Brown. Brown warns you to be careful to not go eggplant, which is more of a purple. It's best to make sure your colorist doesn’t add red to the hair.
Tessa Thompson
Thompson regularly showcases her darker 'do in a variety of styles, providing major fall hair inspo in the process.
